Again: for all of you without a DIME account.

THIS TORRENT IS MP3 SOURCED !

Original announce:

Tin Machine is one of the greatest yet most overlooked bands of the 90s.  A forbearance of grunge, their first album was a revelation at the end of the 80s when glam rock ruled.

TIN MACHINE II was recorded in 1991-1992.  This release contains unreleased takes of most of the tracks from this album with the notable exceptions being IF THERE IS SOMETHING (which is an outtake from the first album) and GOODBYE MR. ED.

I received these tapes from a former band member's friend on cassette around 1997.  They were originally in no particular order and when I converted them from the copy I made of his cassette to the digital domain, I assembled them in the order you now hear.  The sound quality is usually excellent and considering the source I will say they are 2nd generation.

I've been collecting for over 20 years and collected hours of Tin Machine boots when they were still together and have never seen these recordings anywhere so this is an extreme rarity.  Enjoy!!

Personnel:

David Bowie:  Vocals, Sax, and Guitar
Reeves Gabrels:  Guitars
Hunt Sales:  Drums, Vocals
Tony Sales:  Bass, Vocals

42 tracks

TT = 165:00, approximately

Incidentally, there was rumoured to be 36 songs recorded for the first album and only 14 were released.  If anyone has any of those unreleased tracks from the first album, please let me know!  I'd love to have them.

I have several FM and SBD shows from the 91-92 tour, which showcased how amazing this band was live, and will be uploading them to DIME soon.  Several bands claimed a spontaneous performance style similar to jazz, but Tin Machine was one of the few bands to actually pull of the urgency of spontaneous live music like their jazz predecessors.

42 tracks!!!! Jesus! I love Bowie's music but Tin Machine 2 is my least favourite lp - yes I like NLMD and Tonight more. There's no way I could even listen to a third of this download. I'm skipping on this one!

Good luck to those who love it however... Wink

42 = Hammerhead (b-side version). tracks 39 > 42 are officially released versions.

TM2 would top any chart of bowie material from '84 - '94 in my book, so this is very welcome.

NB: seems churlish to gripe and it may be a problem with my download only, but most tracks have a click at the beginning, and "tracks" 14 and 36 are just snippets that were probably the result of a bad tape edit.

You are correct, thanks for noticing that.
I confused it with A Big Hurt after quick listening to the tracks...

Are you 100% sure of this? I didn't listen that carefully to them...

I think these tracks are taken from some kind of tape, so it's difficult to know for sure.

I agree again!  Grin

That's the thing isn't it? You go  - nah, I don't need this and then years later you rediscover TM2 and can't cant enough and think, shit, I coulda had 42 more tracks of this joy!!!

Can't really see that happening but it has happened to me with other recordings, so you've got a strong point. Hmmmm, I'll think about it.  Bright Bulb

i didn't do a direct A/B comparison but from track length (identical to released versions) and the way he'd described them as "misc." and not run them with the other versions suggests he was aware they were not outtakes. the Baby Universal and You Belong... are extended mixes from the singles, but i'm guessing they went through a cassette generation as they sound pretty consistent level-wise with the rest of it.

Quote: I think these tracks are taken from some kind of tape, so it's difficult to know for sure.

definitely, but i'm guessing these two snippets out of a whole bunch of complete takes/mixes suggest some bad editing in the transfer. likewise the brief clicks at the start of most tracks... a shame but a minor quibble considering the whole package.

haven't had the time to really absorb it all but there are a lot of mixes here that will make for fascinating comparisons. e.g. amlapura III (indonesian version) is missing the acoustic guitar...

finally, i hope that all the interest convinces a few non-believers to go back and listen to TM2 which includes some of my (and i'm sure many of your) favourite 90s bowie songs.

   No matter what; I LOVE these uploads,
BUT... when I listen to this (and the previous studio-collection) my ears keep telling me that these are MP3's... (Don't have the software at hand right now to check).
There's this high trebly noise on all the songs that I only know from bad MP3's....

Any idea?
Or did you do some remastering to these maybe?"
