Volver - pretty good, and Penelope Cruz pretty damn hot! 7/10

yup, I'll go with that. Her tits were the stars of that film, without doubt. Fantastic.

watched it today, thought it was very good indeed, although the animal violence was somewhat disturbing 8/10

great movie, huh?   Wink   Smiley
ohh, and there's some human violence too, and not only physical - like the way some people treat each other...

Hi, I have to tell you about a film I saw yesterday which I recommend you to see.
It's an american independent movie, an intelligent SciFi film with a great story.

The Man from Earth

Saw Romulus My Father. Tragic and depressing but a very good film. Simply told with great acting and sympathetic characters. don't watch it if you want a feelgood movie!!

For digital projection i was pretty impressed, but did notice 'video noise' in the red lights on stage, but WTF.
My daughter and i saw it at Readings Cinema, lovely cinemas.
Inspite of the new digital projection plant been installed, they still used the same screen (not sure what sort it was).
Felt a new screen (silver screen maybe) might have given out more lux.
Any how i give it a solid 8 out of 10.

http://www.u23dmovie.com/

Reminded me of the old days working in the industry in the 80's, we installed a true silver
screen over the original screen, and screwed the old carbon arc projectors up to max amps, but could never get enough light on the screen (long throw), and the mono amp   No Music and those bloody cardboard glasses for such classics
as Jaws 3 in 3D and Friday 13th 3 in 3D.   Roll Eyes lol Old Fart Cry So Sad

Here's a pic of one of the old carbon arc theatres i used to work in, circa 1952 before they tore down
the beautiful neon facade, plus we had one of the last 'waterfall' curtains in the Southern Hemisphere.

Yes thevisitor has too much time on his hands (is time on my side ?).
I have been making a nuisance of myself at my local multiplex, by going back to see the last screening of U23D, at $15.50 a pop  No 2 Cents     and doing some theatre hopping (as you do).  Shifty

My conclusion is that digital projection will never replace good old 35 or 70 mm film, no way  No    no matter where you sit in the auditorium.
And the only reason they use it for the likes of 3D is to cut down on distribution costs.
I would really like to see 3D projection from film (like in the old days)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_%28image%29
I had a good look at the plant last night and the video projection was through a Christie CP 2000.

Then i went into some film theatres and woo what a difference, way bigger ratio, fair more detail, but it seems every print now days is a dense soft focus print, or is just me ?.  Huh? Roll Eyes

Iron Man looked good.

zabriskie point, from michelangelo antonioni.

just finished downloading it (not available on the video stores in my area, sorrrrry...   Embarrassed   Roll Eyes   lol )
ya'll probably know the soundtrack - pink floyd, grateful dead, jerry garcia...

from wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zabriskie_Point_(film)

Zabriskie Point is a 1970 film by Michelangelo Antonioni that depicts the U.S. counterculture movement of that time. It sympathetically tells the story of a young couple — an idealistic young secretary, and a militant radical — to put forward an anti-establishment message.

& some "trivia:"

- Harrison Ford has an uncredited role as one of the student demonstrators inside the police station.
- In the cityscape scenes of Blade Runner, some of the fireballs were taken from footage from Zabriskie Point.
- According to Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame, Zabriskie Point may have provided the inspiration to director Stephane Sednaoui for the "Today" video from the band's Siamese Dream album.
- Antonioni visited the band The Doors while they were recording the album L.A. Woman, and considered including them in the soundtrack. The Doors recorded the song L' America for the film, but in the end it was never used.
- The tune from the widely known Pink Floyd song, Us and Them, was originally written on the piano by Richard Wright for the movie in 1969;

and with a little help from my friends...

got the .avi & the .srt file (legend). can i convert it to "dvd" (with legend) using "convert x to dvd?" never did it before with legends. should have tried it before asking but i'm sooooo lazzzzzy today...   lol
also, i can't "see" the legend using "wmp" or "wmp classic..."  Sad    Cry

thanks!    Wink    Smiley

Should be, of course. Dunno if seeing it today would have the same impact...it was very tied to a certain historical period, all that it talks about may seems simply madness now, kind of anachronistic. It's also not very light and conveys a certain anguish...watch it when you feel very happy  Wink

Is it that sad? I quite like sad films. It would be back for me to watch now then...
