Here is an archive of skins. This should include most of the MWP players as well as many, many others for new players to choose from:

http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/cpg/albums/skins.zip (12.3 MB)

Unzip to your Quake/qw folder.

Also, I am asking that everyone attach the skin(s) you are using to this thread. This way, people who do not want to download the zip can add them to their directory.

I see they're just .pcx files - it just a case of editing one to my liking using GIMP or is there more to it than that?

Yes, you can edit it with GIMP or any other program of your choice.
Just remember NOT to change the palette.

Quake 3 has mirros, Quake doesn't.
So the only way for you to see your own skin in game is... to kill yourself and take a look at the corpse. lol

Of course you can always ask someone to play with you and take a screenshot.

Don't worry, you'll se plenty of dead 117's when you play...sometimes I have to be careful not to stumble on dozens of dead Roxy bodies that remain there for a while after I die... lol
