1) configured Radiant under preferences and specified the path to Quake on your HD.
2) copied both .wad files into your Quake/id1 folder.

Check and double check!  Both had been done last night.  Cool

As we have it set up you should have 2 wads in Quake/id1/maps/ and in Quake/id1/.
Wad names are quake101.wad and mwp.wad.

Hmmm.......... both .wad files are in the same places in the Quake directory, but only the MWP.wad shows up in Radiant.  Huh?  It doesn't recognize the quake101.wad for some reason.  Sad

What do you mean it doesn't recognize the wad?

When you start Radiant and select "Textures" from the menu then right at the bottom of the list that shows up there should be all available wads listed. Does it show both wads?

Just to make sure - your Quake/id1/ directory should contain quake101.wad and mwp.wad
and Quake/id1/maps should contain the same files as well - quake101.wad and mwp.wad

The wads in the first directory are there for the editor.
In the second directory they are there for the compiler.
We could avoid it, but this is the simplest way.

You should not worry about that one - Quake doesn't use any shaders!  Cool
It's a leftover from the era when Radiant only supported Quake III Arena without any support for Quake2/Quake.
Now, when it supports Quake, it keeps looking for the file shaderlist.txt, but it doesn't need any shaders so just ignore it.

I assume you have the editor running and you can load our map WITH the textures.  Grin

Which layout did you choose?

I have the 3D window in my left upper corner, texture browser right below it, and 2D window to the side of both of them. 2D window occupies most of the screen, and I change views from XY to XZ and YZ by pressing the "switch view" button. I find it the easiest and most convenient configuration.

You do have a 3D window, right? And you can see the map - I mean textured brushes?
Basically you should see one big room with some stairs in it. This is only a start for our map.  Cheesy

It will be good if you just start a new map - solely for training. Call it whatever you like and save it on your HD.
Practice adding brushes. You do it by pressing left mouse button (LMB) (when the mouse is over the 2D window) and dragging the cursor around.
By doing this you'll be creating rectangular blocks. Try to create a few, move them around, apply some textures to them.
I'll help you with everything but we need to talk online, through some kind of communicator or irc channel. It will be a lot easier.  Cool

Hmmmm......... it's like a 3D version of D&D mapping.  I wish I was a fuzzy-palm'd, orc-slay'n, magic missle shoot'n Geek like bb.  Then I would be good at this!  Grin  Roll Eyes

Hahah, this is only temporary. You'll soon get used to Radiant and our map will dominate all PK servers!  Grin
