FYI

I have just created a new album (following Airiddh's suggestion):
that is, an album where members may upload their pictures.
Of course we are talking of pictures of members in the sense of their faces, or even of them with someone else...but the spirit of this is to be able to give a face to the nicknames, so the member must be in the picture.

For other kind of pics about one's life, creations, or anything else, once a member becomes a VIP member he'll get a space available in the USERS Gallery, where he'll be allowed to create his own albums, on anything he wishes:
http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/smf/index.php/topic,2334.0.html
But it is reserved for VIP members only (yes, it's one of the little privileges that participating in the community gives to active members  Wink )

So,  back to our new album...some "guides":

all pics of members can be uploaded in the Incoming Files of the PICTURES category in the Gallery.
I will then move them to the right album, which is the "Scary Monsters...and Supercreeps" album (title suggested by Piras, btw  Cheesy ).

http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/cpg/index.php?cat=12

I guess it's obvious that you should include the nickname on the album title, and any description you want to add.
I am not setting a numerical limit to the uploads for the moment, since active members are not hundreds, so go ahead and upload even more than one if you wish...of course try not to flood the album with dozens of pics of you!  Grin

And another suggestion: please try to compress a bit the pics you post, like make it at most 1MB. Pics of 200-500 kb still look pretty good on the screen, especially since they are uploaded to be viewed only, and not to be printed.

Any questions or suggestions are welcome and can be posted here  Smiley

You can even add a description if you wish (the year or the occasion or place it was taken in  Wink ).

A quick way to get a picture smaller is to right click on it and email it to yourself, as it gives you the option of making the picture smaller. I use it if I need to quickly resize pictures and not care too much about the specific size of them.

You may also try this one:

http://www.drivehq.com/downloads/downloadBatchPhotoEditor.aspx

I haven't tried it, so I cannot rate it...but it looks as if it should be good enough to resize and compress photos.
I use Corel Photopaint and Photolook, but they are not freeware.

I would suggest to give "The Gimp" a try. It looks a lot like Photoshop, but simpler and free  Smiley

GIMP is excellent, been using it for a few years, if you know what you're doing I believe you can do more or less anything you can do in PhotoShop, but for free (and it's a lot less resource-hungry, to boot) - if like me you don't do a lot of graphics editing it's still handy because it's easy to do simple tasks like re-sizing  Smiley

Yes, GIMP is excellent, but it's also way too powerful for just such a simple purpose you talk about.
If you want to make an image smaller - whether by resizing it or by compressing it - download this small and free image viewer:

http://www.irfanview.com/

Really excellent stuff. Fast, convenient and handy.
One of the nice things about it is that it has many resize algorithms onboard, GIMP only uses linear or cubic interpolation which is quite poor, Mitchell, Hermite and especially Lanczos algorithms are a lot better.
Another cool thing about that viewer is that it allows batch file processing and quick slideshows.

I really dig Irfanview, been using it for years now. It is especially handy for resizing pics.
