A "Quick Guide" for uploading files in the Gallery:

To prevent too much editing and confusion, we decided that files may be uploaded only in the "Incoming Files" albums that are located at the beginning of each category (CD artwork, DVD artwork, Vinyl artwork, Pictures, Ticket Scans).
This simplifies uploading for members and editing for Gallery Administrators, who will then place the edited files in the correct albums.

When you have an image file to upload, first click on the Upload Button in the bar at the top of the Home Page.
You will view a page with a panel that permits you to upload up to 5 files in 5 boxes. The size of the files should not exceed 15024 KB.
Select the files from your HD and upload them, then click "continue"; you should get "upload successful"; again, click "continue".

Next, you'll view a page with a panel that allows you to place the file in the right album:

Where it says "select album" choose Incoming Files album from the dropdown list of the category you wish to upload (CD, DVD, Vinyl etc).
Under "File Title", fill in the caption.
Under "File Description", fill in the venue, city, date and any other information you want to add.
Leave the Keywords box blank.

Click "continue"

You will see "the previous file was placed successfully. You have successfully placed all the files"

Click "continue" again.
Upload is now completed  Smiley

I discovered, through trial and error, that the trick is to hit the 'continue' button on each page  Embarrassed

Of course the easiest solution would be to unzip them and upload the image or document type files they contain.
But maybe what Baal found strange is that when you upload a file in the Gallery, clicking the upload button,  you are told that "ZIP files uploaded in the 'File Upload' and 'URI/URL Upload' sections will remain compressed", as if they were allowed.

@ Baal,

it seems that only image, pdf and txt files are permissible in the gallery, that is, it's configurated  like this.

Sorry for being late on this.

The verbiage on the page is static and refers to ZIP files being left intact.  Why have such verbiage?  Because some galleries will allow people to bulk upload zip files and the system will unzip and place the files contained within the archive.  Coppermine, or more specifically the default install of Coppermine, does not offer this.

So why the verbiage if ZIP files are not allowed.  Because the program isn't coded to not display the message if archives are not allowed.  Could it be removed?  Yup.  I just have to get to it. (Er, it's on the list)

And finally...  I am not allowing ZIP files as a) they could be used to transport viruses and b) it would be asking people to download a "grab bag".  It would be disheartening to me as an end user to download a big Zip file only to find the contents are the same (or even lesser) quality to what I already own. Plus it would be an organizational nightmare.
