Are both phoenix shows ok to watch?
Depends on your point of view. Obviously, the best of it is the pro shot stuff from 96 which maxs out at around 30 minutes...unless someone else knows better The audience shot material from 96 I would put on a par or slightly better than the balcony shot Dublin 95 which to me makes it watchable but not to some others. The audience shots from 20/7/97 are less obscured, less shaky and to me a little more enjoyable than the 96 shot. The audience shot of Tao Jones Index on the 19th is a little more difficult to enjoy. The audio is very bassy/boomy and the video shaky which is not really surprising considering conditions! My memory and dates may be a bit mixed up

I seem to recall that I have an audience of the 1997 ( ) Phoenix fest and there are way too many damn flags waving in front of the camera. What is that all about? I never did manage to get the Tao Jones Index set from this venue... So I would be interested in that one, unless it's unwatchable (and I value screen54's opinion in such matters).

Be a little tricky to upload as they are mainly still on VHS tapes! I'm a little reluctant to spend time doing transfers from anything other than master/v.low gen tapes. Please don't be offended or think me a hoarder as this is not the case. No-one likes to invest bandwidth, time and effort to get something knowing full well that a better version is just around the corner Rest assured, I have a few projects for seeding in the coming weeks and months BTW, my memory with regard to the Tao Jones Index set from Phoenix was a little off the mark. It's a lot less shaky than I remembered but is very dark!

Not to mention the investment in time by the provider to try and make the source material look better... BTW, my memory with regard to the Tao Jones Index set from Phoenix was a little off the mark. Do you think a quick VHS > Standalone > Post Office > Swamps > Avisynth could do something about that? (Got to keep that lineage straight, don't ya know...)

For some reason, about 15 years ago, people started taking flags to festivals. It spread like a virus. Now, no festival experience is complete without being completely unable to see the stage because of some tosser waving a massive flag in front of you. (always seems to be Welsh dragons as well...)

Do you think a quick VHS > Standalone > Post Office > Swamps > Avisynth could do something about that? (Got to keep that lineage straight, don't ya know...) Maybe VHS > Post Office > Swamps would satisfy your curiosity, bewls It's an NTSC tape so a standalone transfer would be awful. A bit of Avisynth would no doubt help but probably not with the darkness...it was shot in a tent! Perhaps the best improvement (other than a low gen tape) would be an alternative soundtrack if anyone has it? I'll try to get some screenshots of some of the other stuff so you'll understand my reluctance Having said that, I should have off-air recordings of the pro-shot 96 stuff to add to the projects list! Eeek! That is pretty bad... So yes, while it may ultimately satisfy my curiousity, I may end up lamenting the pointless death of a DVD-R. Perhaps that one is best served remaining locked away on VHS.

I think that's one I have. Once I finish seeding a couple of torrents elsewhere, I'll do something about it. Cheers, Goblin Don't you .......forget about us

Milton Keynes...which show? I have the 2/7/83 show on VHS and it is particularly difficult to watch. Nice clear image on a low gen tape but generally too shaky to enjoy. Another of those which might give ten minutes pleasure if you were there, otherwise, don't bother Does somebody has a better copy and on dvd? I am still very curious and love this tour ..... Is there also a first gen copy on dvd of the montreal show?

I get the impression that Marc is talking about Milton Keynes 83, Goblin To be honest, I think that a copy from the master would be virtually unwatchable

From what I can gather from old video traders lists, Montreal is one of the better audience shots from 83. Almost all are incomplete and almost all are too shaky to watch. Consider a 1983 camcorder then imagine holding it securely through a full concert. These guys did really well getting anything at all! Aside from MK, I think the only other decent length 83 audience shot I have is from Paris 8/6 and IIRC I didn't watch it right through despite being at the show.
