That the darkest hour never comes in the night.

« on: January 25, 2009, 04:07:28 AM »

I've decided to put the beast aside to build a box to go a long with my new TV.  This is what I want to put together for an all purpose machine:

Antec New Solution NSK2480 Black/Silver 0.8mm cold-rolled steel MicroATX Desktop Computer Case 380W Power Supply.

Foxconn A7GM-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard.

AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor.

Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Desktop Memory.

SPARKLE SX98GT512D3L-NM GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive.

ASUS Black 6X Blu-ray DVD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-Ray DVD Combo Drive Model BC-06B1ST.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional.

Cool?   Or can I do better without spend'n a lot more money?   Undecided

when you say 'all purpose', what uses are you intending for it?  Coz if it's for a media centre then you could save yourself the cost of Windows by using one of the many linux options, MythTV for example

Grin  Unfortunately, dad's now last in line for a new car.  However, when ya got a 20 year old 323, ya pretty good to go for 20 more.  Cheesy

I should have said "multi-purpose".  I envision when it gets connect'd to the Visio that it will play DVDs, games, surf the net, etc, process documents, etc.  Unfortunately, I won't be the only user and a Linux only OS would drive the other users (ahem... the girls) crazy.  But now that I think ‘bout it, that may not be such a bad thing. Sly  But then again, the wifey et. al would also wind up drive'n me crazy.  Sad  Yup, must have Windows.  Cry
