Is it? Woudn't then re-ripping the files include a gap at the start of the first track? Wouldn't that make it impossible to ever match up FLAC FFP's and MD5's on the first track? Huh?

Sorry, don't really know anything about Nero, so don't have the experience necessary to answer those questions.

Don't think so, for I reripped some discs and never had problems...even if I admit I rarely do that for I save all my audios in dvds just as they are uploaded originally, and that's my source when I have to copy or upload again.

@ bewley,

looked into this again (and today I found out that even Nero is able to re-rip files from the cd file audio directly to flac or wav, or many other formats...including m4a) and doing this, the 2 seconds gaps are always ignored, it rips the tracks, and not the gaps. The gaps are set as default by the program when you rip to cd, but they are not read in any way when reripping from the cd to a format you want to save them in.

Tried it with Easy CD-DA Extractor (which is the software I usually use when encoding) and it's the same thing, gaps are ignored and files match.

@ The Lamb,

I too used CD Architect some time ago (before discovering that "mistreated" Nero does it "quicker and good" too  Wink); I still have it in my HD somewhere, and it is a good software that gives you all you need.

But WaveLab is by far the best, if you are in a perfectionist groove (that's my husband's software, and I used it in the past...when I had much more free time  Undecided).

Downside though is that it comes with too many features that if not used professionally isn't really needed (and this makes it's price not very popular).

In the end, especially if I need only some fairly good and quick audio ripping for my personal enjoyment, Nero is the one I use more Smiley

Thanks for the info on Nero. One day I'm gonna get this software and take a look.

You do know, with a little configuration you can set EAC to rip to MP3, FLAC, MP4 and just about anything else you could want. Get the security of EAC's ripper and the resulting file type you want. Wink

I have just installed EAC V0.99 prebeta4 to try it (until now I had used Easy CD/DA Exrtractor for ripping Cds).
I noticed that the program also gives the possibility to compress directly to mp3 or to Flacs when ripping...I opted for Flacs.
So, besides the ripping to WAVs, it also has the option of ripping and encoding directly to Flacs (without having to use FLAC Frontend).

I would be interested to know if anyone that uses EAC has tried this option, and if it's reliable.
Also, I tried compressing a track directly to FLACs and it did it without letting me choose the compression level nor telling me which which one it used.
Anyone knows how to find out the compression level it uses?  Huh?

Edit: Sorry, should have mentioned initially... the question is about the inverse process, from playable Audio Cds to WAVs/FLACs (to make an audio torrent)  Wink

I don't have EAC installed on my machine at work, but by memory this is under EAC > Compression Options and is the second tab. I would imagine that by default EAC has setup a User Defined External Program and that it is pointing to FLAC.EXE. There should be some command line options and this is where you can set compression level.

Ah! We just had this conversation...

True!  Embarrassed
I hadn't checked it for I thought it was about Flac Frontend only  Smiley
Thanks, that explains it, I needed the command lines options part  Grin
