Although BT (my isp) is part of this crack down it look as though, after sending warning letters (I didn't get one- yet) they will not cut us off. It might be the thin end of the wedge and a down turn for sites like us. Undecided

But isn't it the usual threat against copyrighted shared material?  Huh?
And ours isn't official material Tongue
And also, whatever they do, they'll never succeed, pirating will find its way anyway. How many times did we read things like this? It's years they say the same things all over the world...look at all thos actions against the swedish sites...Demonoid is still there and so are the others.
They're gonna cut off internet to who uses it for downloading illegal stuff? Well, they'll have to refund the providers companies then, for they'll lose 90% of the internet users  lol

I think it will be pirated material that they will concentrate on first. I then think the non copywrite material as we have here will be the next step hopefully a long way down the line Angry
(thin edge of the wedge again)

I have a feeling that the likes of this place and its users will be all right. I remember that I read something about this last year and most people were of the opinion that we'd be ok. Smiley

what they haven't said is how they're going to be running this - that article says in one sentence "The focus is on people sharing files illegally", and then the next "there is not an acceptable level of file-sharing" - there is an acceptable level of file-sharing, and that is file-sharing of completely legal material (like for instance that shared here) - how are they going to determine whether or not a user is sharing illegally or legally without breaching our privacy rights?

Good point. Privacy is becoming an outmoded concept in the Western World it seems. The demands of capitalism and the excuse that 9/11 gave right wingers to broaden their influence is really coming home to roost. Be afraid, be very afraid.

I wouldn't worry...internet has become a far too broad environment to be able to control it as they wish.
They're not even able to do it when serious matters are implied, like paedophil pornography and such.
So, all this bla bla is recurrent. It'll subside soon.

It looks to me as if the ISPs have been conned into believing they're somehow responsible...

Now all that is needed is for the BPI etc to take them to court over it. Tongue lol

At least they now have a new future avenue of revenue raising. Shocked

I'm sorry to say that I just received a PM where it said that various italian peer to peer sites have been closed by the finance officers...so here we are again.
Looks like they're starting to strike here too.

Exactly and this is what I find most scary of all.

Oh, wait a minute, we're already being monitored constantly. Records are probably kept of where our mobile phones are at any given time. We can't leave our homes without being caught on CCTV. It does not take a giant leap to imagine that all e.mails are monitored for keywords in the interest of National Security, you understand.

Should I get a warning, I think I will write my own letter to close my accounts. Save myself a fair few quid each month and just use the library to keep up to date Smiley
