I'm new to this site and have downloaded Bowie Maine Road 1987 DVD x two discs - according to Azareus my downloader of choice I have a share ratio of 2.2 on both discs however, this is not reflected in my profile on the site which suggests I'm freeloading -why?

Hi Maybe,

I noticed you didn't show up with your nick when I seeded the torrent the other day...but I saw your german flag in uTorrent so I figured it was you downloading as a guest.

Not much you can do now...the credits will not show in your profile for it wasn't the identifier that the torrent file contained.
So when you download anything it's better to remember to be logged in when you download the little torrent file, otherwise all of your upload credits will not be credited to your member account, but to the guest account

Actually, you guys can use this to your advantage.

You have the torrent fully downloaded.  Your account here at MWP does NOT have download credit against you.

So, what you do is take the completed torrent out of your download folder and remove it from your client.  Then come back here to MWP, MAKE SURE you are logged in this time ... 

Now, go to the torrent you already have & download that torrent file (again).  It will contain a unique hash key tied to your member name (thus, protect it so someone else doesn't blow your ratio by downloading as you!).

On your computer, your bit torrent client doesn't know you have the completed torrent anymore ... so move the completed torrent back into the bit torrent DL folder (making sure not to edit anything!).

Now when you add in your personalized torrent file ... the one you've downloaded while logged in ... your client should find the completed torrent in its folders, figure out you already have 100% of the torrent and go straight to seeding.


While you have 'lost' your credit up until now as a guest, you will now gain pure credit without having to overcome your download.

Thus, you will be beginning life here with pretty impressive share ratios, until you download more torrents.

Now that I have instructed you in the ways of 'hacking' your share ratio here, I would ask you not to abuse your newfound powers by going over to the Dark Side.

Yah .. I thought about that for about three minutes.

But.  It's not all about share ratio, as is noted in a number of posts around here.

Anyone can pull this trick a couple of times to get out of 'the gutter,' but anyone abusing this method is gonna get caught out in fairly short order.  It's not really any different than folks who pick up a torrent at Dime (for example) and then jump in to seed against a torrent here.

But .. I'll look about for some hangin' rope and PM it to ya so you have it on-hand when you need it.
