posting via Knoppix....

Today I couldn't surf the net at all. Thought the cable modem was acting up, but the wife's and the boy's computers both got on just fine. Then I noticed that although I have no HTTP connectibility, my uTorrent and ASE seem to be working OK. I also had some connections in Trillian. I then thought that maybe my NIC was going south. I've also been noticing things running a bit slower lately as well.

I called a friend and he suggested I get and run Knoppix as that would help figure out if there were any hardward issues. Got it with the wife's laptop, burned to CD and booted up with no problems. As soon as I opened the browser, no problem.

So I think I'm going to reinstall my old OS (Win2K Pro) and see what happens. My buddy's wondering if I have a virus or something, but AVG never seems to say I do although when I run it, it says the ntoskrnl.exe has been changed along with a couple other .dll's.

Any ideas? I'll check in tomorrow to see if there's any replies here. I've actually been wanting to reinstall the OS for a long time but haven't due to not knowing where my serial # for ASE was. But since it's going away now, I have nothing holding me back. Will be reinstalling tomorrow night hopefully; need to remove/move some stuff before I do that though.

Anyone have any thoughts on what's going on with my computer? (please leave the sarcasm relating to the age/slowness of it aside for now) One other thing: I lost the right channel in my speakers again the other day. Any connection?

Do you happen to run Fiddler when programming? Huh?

It would be a strange ass coincidence, but GantMan had a situation the other day where Fiddler crashed on him and he couldn't get out on the web. I think all it took was a simple reboot and he was back up and running -- did you try rebooting to see if that would help?

Also, I once had my NAT act up and it banned my internal IP address from the web. Talk about a PITA! lol

No idea what Fiddler is, but rebooting seems to have no affect.   Undecided

NAT? is this a router you refer to? I'll look at it again to see if it's doing something weird.

hi!
I am new to this forum, so I am not sure whether this is the right department for my question:

I tried to download "mingus at the postaula germany 1975", but it wouldn't function since there appeared a window which asked me to download an update of real player, but when I tried to get a tool from real player, it said, it didn't support torrents.
so how can I download audio files her without real player?
or could I ask somebody to send me the audio files via e-mail?
thx in advance

Have you downloaded torrents before?

The reason I ask is because you need to save the torrent file to disk, then open it, and the program needed to open it is not realplayer.

You'll need a torrent client like uTorrent:
http://www.utorrent.com/download.php

Once you install uTorrent, torrent files will be associated with this program, and it will load the shows you want, and download without too much hassle.

You might need a little extra help to open ports, so come back when you're ready. Wink

Oh... and we have proper guides:

Cheers, and Welcome. Grin
