Is there a way that we can have the site auto-post a link to the tracker's torrent announce in the post generated in the messageboard about a new torrent?

In an attempt to clarify what I mean:  I browse the site and torrents by using the forum, normally by clicking the 'Show unread posts since last visit' link and then opening any threads that may be of interest to me - this way I can see any new torrents as well as other discussion.  If I spot a torrent that I may be interested in I can then read the torrent details from the forum post generated by the announce (and any subsequent comment on said torrent), but I can't download the torrent without manually browsing to the torrent tracker and then finding the torrent from the list there - if there was a link directly to the announce then it would just make things easier, as I'm guessing other users will agree  Smiley

Not a biggie, just something that I think would make myself and others love the site even more  Smiley

In SavageJaw this functionality existed, so I guess it's possible, although that was different forum software. I'm sure Bewley will tell us more Smiley

I need to rewrite the order of operation in which a torrent is written to the database versus the creation of the thread since I need the torrent id to make the announce link. In other words, I need to post the announce to the database, create the thread and then update the announce with the thread information.

Not terrible, but a bit of an effort. However, the reason I haven't done this yet is due to fact that the announce thread is editable by the original uploader. Thus it is possible that the uploader can break/remove the link once posted. The only way to protect the link, and assure that it can't be modified, is to mod the forum to create a permanent link to the tracker. I haven't been keen on doing too many code mods on the forum as these can break the upgrade procedures. But I am willing to take a look when time permits.

So for the time being, perhaps a community effort is the best way to go (as per the way it was done on Savage Jaw). If you see a new torrent on the tracker, jump on in and post the direct link. Not the most effiecent manner of handling, but it does equate to 5 MB's for the person willing to take 5 seconds and do it. Wink

I was thinking the same thing  Wink
It could even be done by the uploader himself, as soon as he/she checks his announce on the forum, he/she could edit it and add the link  Wink

Still...

Not the best solution, but one that could work.

Also, it would be nice to automate adding links to the Gallery...

Duh

See, this is my problem. I just can't think small and solve one problem without opening Pandora's Box!!!

Sounds like a plan  Smiley   although, as someone who has a total announced torrent quantity of zero, I would say that  lol

Anyone can do it.

I just did it for the last two uploads and it only took a few seconds since I could post directly from the announce "comments". Wink

Yup.

You can set that in your account settings on the tracker. Cheesy
