Personnel
Johnny Coles - trumpet
Eric Dolphy - alto sax, bass clarinet, flute
Clifford Jordan - tenor sax
Jaki Byard - piano
Charles Mingus - bass
Dannie Richmond - drums

Another great musical genius who thankfully stuck around long enough (unlike saxophonist Eric Dolphy)
to produce a large body of work.  The 1964 tour is well documented on legitimate & bootleg releases.
This one includes the afternoon rehearsal-listen to disc 1 track 2 for some chatter between Mingus and Dolphy.
As with all concerts from this era, there was no soundboard & multi-tracking, so the recordings came from onstage
microphones, which is how this came into being probably for a radio broadcast.  We can thank the Swedish
for broadcasting a lot of music which eventually was preserved for our listening pleasure many years later!

as always, enjoy & share the music...

Oh what a beauty you have uploaded here, I've check on the shelfs and I find out that I haven't this concert yet, so I'm happiely take it down now, yeah the 1964 tour with Dolphy was a fantastic tour that Mingus made, and this line-up with both Johnny Coles and Jaki Byard was a fantastic one, yeah Eric Dolphy should stay in Europe after the tour ending and he eve die there in a diabetic coma a couple of month later in June 29 1964 in Berlin, and that was a big loss for the music world, yeah it have been a lot of great musicians recorded for the Swedish Radio over the years, both in the fantastic sounding concerthouse and in the Swedish Radio own studios, yeah they got some great producers and technicians so they was able to get a great sound indeed, yeah it gonna be interesting to hear the rehearsal too, yeah I bet that I really gonna love this concert a lot indeed, so you got some fantastic concert for us to enjoy, yeah I like Mingus very much indeed since I heard the Bohemia for the first time, yeah I think it was the Bohemia concert that was my first view into the work of Mingus.

Thank you popeye for sharing the Charles Mingus In Stockholm 1964   Grin

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago
Oh no, not me, I never lost control
You're face to face, with the man who sold the world

Mingus and Dolphy together is such a good match. Sometimes I feel Dolphy doesn´t fit with other musicians because he´s doing "his thing" and the others play along with him. These guys really plays together and make each other better - wonderful! And Jaki Byard is also a perfect companion here... What a band!

Great upload again popeye!  Cheesy Many thanks - this will be a delight.
