French host Guillaume Durand, a long time fan, was really happy to welcome David Bowie on the set of his show. The performance of the seven songs was brilliant and most of the talking, despite a few translation problems, was very interesting. The idea was to have other artists on the set, maybe not all Bowie-connected, but all fully aware of DB's music. Among them were Damon Albarn, Air and Francoise Hardy.

The duet with Damon and DB is a real slice of history. "Fashion", on that special night, sounded more modern than ever! The chat between David and Damon was also great and David insisted on the fact that he considers "Think Tank" as one of the best albums of the year.

Francoise Hardy, a very famous singer during the sixties/seventies and now a living icon, was delighted to finally meet David. She'd been saying for the last fifteen years how much she loved him as a songwriter, singer and performer and was now able to meet the man in the flesh! David also seemed very happy and even more when she said "Outside: was her favorite album. She had also worked with Damon and Blur in the past.

Air played "Another Day" from their next album, out early next year (2004) and also had an interesting chat with David. He's been aware of their work since the magnificent "Moon Safari" and confirmed he couldn't wait to hear the new album.

Other artists "on" the show were Moby (live from New York, telling nice things about last year's (2002) US tour), Dandy Warhols (rehearsing for the tour they sent a video message from LA), Too, Many DJs and Mick Rock, live from London, who talked about his "Moonage Daydream" book with our man.

The chat did include some fantastic moments (even though David couldn't always hear the questions properly) among them the bits about Salvador Dali and Elvis Presley.

2003 Jerome Soligny

Mastering, Layout and Design 100% British

Notes:
- The interviews on this DVD are in French.
- This is the complete Trafic.Musique show, with some non-Bowie content (Air).
- Quality is superb, much better than other versions of this show available.
- The title is "Traffic" on the artwork, so it is the same here.

Quite possibly the most comprehensive Announce I've ever seen  Cheesy

I was wondering if you would notice. Cheesy

I spent nearly two hours preparing it, including the time it took to create the specifications for the individual VOBs and transcribing the text from the cover (no, I didn't use OCR, thus the typos in the info file Embarrassed).

I did create a groovy template file for GSpot if anyone is interested. I like GSpot over WinDVD, except that it doesn't give average video bit rate in the exported file. I had to transcribe that information manually from the UI.

Well done.

The point of such a comprehensive Announce, to other readers, is that it gives more than enough information about what the Torrent holds and what a downloader can expect. The uploader has done his research and taken the time to prepare his Announce.

This Announce should be viewed as a benchmark.  Cool

Thank you. Cool

I absolutely agree. I think an announce should give more than adequate information for someone to make an educated decision not only based on content, but also help people decide if they already own the material. With the way material is often repackaged (for profit or simply multiple versions of artwork), it can be confusing trying to determine one version of the content from the next.

Plus, it is imperative to have the details in the forum and not just as an attached info file. A few months from now the torrent (and info file) will be gone from the tracker, but the message will remain for the life of the site archived in the forum -- offering future members the opportunity to research and determine if a reseed would be an upgrade for them. By the way, I was wondering if this would have been a better way to present the technical details (seeing how much of the information is redundant in this case):

--- Video Information ---
Broadcast standard: PAL
Frame Size (pixels): 720 x 576
Display Aspect Ratio: 1.333
Fields Per Second: 50.000
Frames Per Second: 25.000
Frame Type (I/L or Prog): I/L
Top/Bottom Frame Order: TFF

--- Audio Information ---
Audio Codec:  AC3 48000 448 kbps
Audio Bitrate Type: CBR
Audio Channel Count: 2

--- VOB Information ---
File Name: VTS_01_1.VOB
Duration (hh:mm:ss): 21:49.304
Average Video Bitrate: 5042 kbps

File Name: VTS_01_2.VOB
Duration (hh:mm:ss): 23:28.747
Average Video Bitrate: 5153 kbps

File Name: VTS_01_3.VOB
Duration (hh:mm:ss): 20:46.422
Average Video Bitrate: 4889 kbps

File Name: VTS_01_4.VOB
Duration (hh:mm:ss): 30:58.216
Average Video Bitrate: 4863 kbps

File Name: VTS_01_5.VOB
Duration (hh:mm:ss): 6:22.521
Average Video Bitrate: 5181 kbps

It seems to me to be much more concise and easier to read in this format. Agree?

This is how I would have presented it:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Traffic Musique 2003
TV5 Europe (French TV) September 2003

Lineage: Trade DVD+R -> DVDDecrypter -> MWP
Type: unofficial
Author: unknown
Source: TV broadcast
Menu: no
Chapters: yes
Transfer Rate: ~6mb/s
Format: PAL / 25fps
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Audio: Dolby Digital 2.0 / 448kb/s
Disc Type: DVD5
Number of Discs: 1
Total Running Time: 1h 49m 49s
Artwork: not included
Link To Artwork In MWP Gallery: http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-394
MD5 File: included

Note 1: The vision and audio qualities of this DVD are very good.

Note 2: The interviews are translated to French by voiceover and it is somewhat difficult to hear what Bowie and the other interviewees are actually saying in English.

Contents:
- Intro / biography (in French)
- in studio performance of 'New Killer Star'
- in studio performance of 'Never Get Old'
- in studio interview with Bowie (in French)
- satellite interview with Moby (in French)
- archival footage of BBC TV's 'Tonight' with Cliff Michelmore circa 1964 / in studio interview continued with Bowie
- band intro / in studio performance of 'She'll Drive The Big Car'
- in studio performance of 'Modern Love'
- in studio interview continued with Bowie
- satellite interview with Mick Rock
- in studio performance of 'Fashion' featuring Blur's Damon Albarn
- in studio interview continued with Bowie plus Damon Albarn
- in studio interview continued with Bowie plus Francoise Hardy
- filmed interview with the Dandy Warhols about Bowie
- in studio performance of 'Another Day' performed by Air
- in studio interview with Air and Bowie
- 2 Many DJ's concert footage and in studio interview with band members and Bowie
- in studio performance of 'Days'
- in studio performance of 'Fall Dogs Bombs The Moon'

Uploaded to Mind-Warp PaVilion xx/xx/xx
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think it's necessary to present the properties of each VOB file - just the general properties of the entire DVD. In the above example all the necessary technical atributes are as reported by PowerDVD.

Nice! Thumbs Up

The only reason I went for specs on each VOB is due to the number of mix and match DVDs that are out there. Often these are put together using multiple VOBs with drastically different specifications.  Yes, in this case it is unnecessary, but it doesn't hurt to stay in practice. Wink

Where DVDs with multiple Titles are concerned - ie compilations - I agree that presenting technical information about each Title is preferable. If we use Visionary Spirit as an example this DVD has three Titles and the Announce might look something like this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Visionary Spirit
Technical Aspects Of Whole Of DVD
Type: unofficial
Author: unknown
Source: unbroadcast TV footage
Menu: yes
Chapters: yes
Transfer Rate: ~5mb/s
Format: NTSC / 29.970fps
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Disc Type: DVD5
Number of Discs: 1
Total Running Time: 1h 28m 08s

Technical Aspects of Title 1
Title 1: Silent Masters: 39m 55s
Type: unofficial
Author: unknown
Source: unbroadcast TV footage
Menu: yes
Chapters: yes
Transfer Rate: ~3mb/s
Format: NTSC / 29.97fps
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Audio: MPEG 2.0 / 160kb/s
Contents:
- Life On Mars? 12th May 1973 – silent promo take of official promo
- Ziggy In Bournemouth 25th May 1973 – silent footage of the Bournemouth Winter Garden concert (incorrect date on DVD given as 23rd May 1973)
- John, I’m Only Dancing 19th August 1972 – silent promo takes of official promo

Technical Aspects of Title 2
Title 2: Dubbed Items: 35m 37s
Type: unofficial
Author: unknown
Source: unbroadcast TV
Menu: yes
Chapters: yes
Transfer Rate: ~5mb/s
Format: NTSC / 29.97fps
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Audio: LPCM 2.0 / 1536kb/s
Contents:
- The Winter Gardens, Bournemouth 25th May 1973 silent concert footage dubbed with Holy, Holy (incorrect date on DVD given as 23rd May 1973)
- The Friars Club, Aylesbury 15th July 1972 silent concert footage dubbed with Starman, Suffragette City, Sweet Head and Waiting For The Man
- The Civic Hall, Dunstable 21st June 1972 silent concert footage dubbed with Queen Bitch, My Death. (This Title includes an Easter Egg: Mick Ronson Profile – promo for the ‘Heaven And Hull' album, Epic Records 22nd April 1994)

Technical Aspects of Title 3
Title 3: Bonus Items: 12m 36s
Type: unofficial
Author: unknown
Source: unknown
Menu: yes
Chapters: yes
Transfer Rate: ~6mb/s
Format: NTSC / 29.97fps
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Audio: MPEG 2.0 / 160kb/s
Contents:
- Life On Mars? – silent promo (Slate 1 Take 4)
- Life On Mars? – silent promo (Slate 1 Take 5)
- Silent excerpt from the Mick Rock film ‘Rainbow Interviews’
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see the Transfer Rate and Audio Aspects differ between the three Titles. This is a case where providing the technical aspects of each Title would be encouraged in an Announce. That said, however, there are a number of caveats that could apply to compilation DVDs:

- if the compilation DVD is made on a stand-alone recorder it's fairly safe to assume that each Title would have the same Transfer Rate and Audio Aspects assuming it was recorded in the same mode - HQ or SQ.

- if the compilation DVD is for the most part from one source with a short additional Title or two tacked onto the end it would be acceptable to just use the main component of the DVD for the Technical Aspects of the DVD in the Announce. An example of this would be Conan In Clay, where the bulk of the DVD comprises of the Conan Clay Animation broadcast @ 45m with 14m of the July 2002 Australian 60 Minutes interview at the end.

- there may be instances where a Title crosses VOB files.
