To most people, David Bowie is little more than a commodity of pop music since the release of whichever Guitar Hero game features the track “Ziggy Stardust,” which wasn’t even a single.

I have so far posted Prince and Friends - Miles 2 Nowhere ( http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/smf/index.php/topic,3345.0.html) at the following sites: Demonoid (immediately) Meganova (2 hours later) FullDLS (6 hours later) TorrentMatrix (10 hours later) (... yes, I got a bit impatient ) ... and intend to go on posting at other sites tomorrow after checking if the torrent has spread on its own in the meantime. I'll return and edit this post with further sites (so far it hasn't spread, btw, but they are not likely to search other sites more than once or twice per day). 21 hours later (= after uploading torrent here), the torrent has spread to three search engine sites: there's no telling where http://btjunkie.org/ and http://torrent-finder.com/ got it from (and those two appear to be practically the same), but http://torrentspy.com/ clearly got it from http://www.fulldls.com/. From 6 seeders and 15 leechers (11 snatches), the torrent has grown to 24 seeders and 10 leechers (50 snatches) presently, so taking it a bit slow with uploading to other sites doesn't hurt the swarm. I actually suspect you can make that initial period of relatively high activity last a little longer by considerate step-by-step uploading to other sites...

The "experiment" with Miles 2 Nowhere shows that the dumpsites in fact do not take content from one another - at least not every day (I've waited almost two days to be sure). Torrents posted to practically any of the dumpsites on the list will, however, spread "automatically" to the search engine sites: TorrentFinder, BitJunkie, TorrentSpy and Torrentz.com for certain. Uploading to them is, therefore, a waste of energy, since your torrent will get there anyway. So, I will advertise Queen - Complete Kampuchea Concert at the following sites: http://www.demonoid.com/http://www.mininova.org/http://www.bitenova.nl/index.php [update: annoyingly refuses anything but letters and numbers in the description, thus not : or - or /. Can you really hack a site by uploading plain text? It shouldn't be parsed anyway ] http://www.fulldls.com/http://www.meganova.org/ [update - already had the torrent in their database, so they got it from here or one of the above sites. No point in uploading to meganova if you do the ones above, in other words.] http://www.monova.org/http://www.torrentmatrix.com/ (reg required) http://www.torrentportal.com/ (reg required) http://fenopy.com/ (reg required) http://www.torrentreactor.net/ (reg required) [update - uploading fails repeatedly because of permissions/access denials for their upload page - but it still reports as successfully uploaded. Oh well, I'm not wasting time on it. ] Edit... I think there are a few more Piras2 to bust... Indeed. Piras3, Piras4, huh? "There are many copies..."

Quite interesting that some people really enjoy uploading guest torret files to those trackers. In some cases it was hard to tell if the torrent was uploaded by a bot or an anonymous user and I have the impression that all the ...nova-sites share their information. (I will test that with my next torrent when I change the announce slightly for the ...nova sites.) In any case the torrent files spread quite well.
It was also interestig that I already had guests downloading before I even started to announce the torrent at other sites. And only a few minutes after I announced the torrent at MWP. (torrent-crawlers, spider-bots ?)

No,in that case I would have posted it here... Oh, that wasn't really directed at you, no offense meant! I just couldn't resist the cylon reference. (That is, referring to Battlestar Galactica, an excellent TV show, not because it is science fiction as much as for the way it deals with issues of "us and them" and the difficulty of telling the good guys from the bad guys when the going gets tough.) Good idea to make slight changes. I guess those immediate guest peers could be people simply visiting MWP. Or, they might be on the RSS feed? Based on my results, I do not think that the nova sites pick torrents from one another, other than meganova (amply named), that already had my latest torrent in its database when I got there. But, that's inferring from one (or two) torrent(s) only. Please do report if you can trace the movement of a torrent. This is getting interesting.

Yes next time I will do slightly different announces for each of my guest-torrent uploads. So maybe we can "trace" then...

Yeah, Demonoid is down and nobody knows why. Interesting results - it seems Meganova indeed gets the torrents very quickly from one of the other sites, and also like those of us that are lazy may skip posting at TorrentPortal, too.

Here is the article from Wikipedia.
Current Shutdown
As of Tuesday, 25th September 2007, Demonoid is down, with no prior warnings from any moderators of the site. Both the main torrent page and the forum (fora) are no longer accessible.
Torrentfreak.com has since reported this is due to legal actions from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) who ordered Demonoid's ISP to shut down the site.
And here is the whole article from TorrentFreak.
Demonoid.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers has allegedly been taken offline by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours now.
Demonoid Shut Down by the CRIAAs of now it is still unsure what exactly happened, but the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reports that the CRIA is responsible for the downtime.
TorrentFreak contacted some of the Demonoid administrators, but they are not sure what happened either. It is certainly possible that Demonoid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The Demonoid server is still pinging, but the ISP could have firewalled the everything after they received some serious legal threats. Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site is unreachable and has not responded yet.
This is not the first time Demonoid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demonoid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demonoid’s ISP. BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator’s personal details, but Demonoid relocated their servers before any harm was done.
Unfortunately, it now seems that Canada is not the “safe haven” as they expected it to be.
Demonoid tracks over a million .torrent files and is the second largest BitTorrent tracker after The Pirate Bay. The shutdown of the site and tracker is a huge blow for the BitTorrent community that lost 2 of the most popular BitTorrent trackers (TorrentBox was taken offline for US users a few hours ago) within 24 hours.
