only to find that due to picture and sound quality being maybe terrible that it would be virtually unwatchable like some others I have downloaded in the past

Let me put it in the most egocentric way I can... lol

I mastered, tweaked and synced this DVD. You have known me for a while now and I believe you would agree that I have rather high standards. There is no way that I am going to attach my name to something that is outright "terrible". Again, due to me not having master recordings of both the audio and video, this is not "perfect". But... I really think it is more than watchable and better than most audience recordings I have seen uploaded on the web -- this being in large part due to the fantastic job of the taper.

By the way, since you mention "Sunday"... Did you know, the video misses the introduction of this song? However, it appears in full on the audio... So what I did was, took some still shots and spliced it into the video so that the DVD would retain 100% of the audio. Wink

yes, now I understood that still images...I thought there wer just an artistc decision by you Grin, as a change from Low to the Heathen set...

and trevorhalvo, I thougt like you, why dl audience shots that sucks, but this one is great both in imge and sound...

bewley:

-If you cold tell us, what means your signature en the menu screen???

-One of the audios has the voice in the back, the volume is lower and is more sharp; the other is "full" with vocals more upfront, Ilike this second, is warmer and more realistic...which is the original and which the DAT  Huh?, I guess is the second.

-why in the 'end' menu at DVD 1, you put Something in the air...it`s not in the setlist Huh?  I love that song, although I have read many bad opinions about it in the DB forums around the web.

To answer 1 & 3...

Isn't the signature you speak of "SITA"? And the last song played is Something In The Air.. Hmmmm... Wink

As for question #2... The default audio is the DAT and the secondary audio is the original. I agree with what you say... However, the original audio has much more audience noise. However, knowing people would feel the same way, I left both audio tracks so people could choose their favorite.

So choose the one you like best. Wink

Ooh! you little egocentric you bewley lol

I wasn't suggesting that this DVD was going to be terrible as such, bad choice of words on my part maybe, but like goa said, he and I are a bit wary when it comes to downloading audience shot DVD's. I think I might have said sometime in the past here on MWP, that I prefer pro shot DVD's  in general ( I'm a bit of a quality junkie on the side Smiley ) I fully realise however that audience shot DVD's are sometimes the only source to obtain things  and that they can't possibly be up to the same standard as a proshot one, the thing is I have often found that one persons description of a great audience shot DVD is a lot different from mine Roll Eyes Each of us have our own ideas of what's best and what isn't when it comes to quality issues, so in reality it's an impossible task to please everyone I guess, which is why I was fishing for a few different comments with regards this one because I have wanted  a DVD of Meltdown for a while ( thanks goa and screen54 ) I wasn't suggesting that you were putting rubbish up on the MWP tracker bewls honest!  Wink Cheesy

Your standards are indeed high btw as your comments and attention to detail with regards to sunday on this DVD proves!  so a big thanks from me for sorting that track out the way you have.

Each of us have our own ideas of what's best and what isn't when it comes to quality issues,

I feel ya and I agree with that 100%... I have often raised a few eyebrows when I say that there isn't, from a quality perspective, a ***** unofficial Bowie DVD in circulation. Until someone can get a perfect widescreen HDTV > DVD conversion without broadcast interference or compression artifacts, it ain't gonna happen. The sat caps and master VHS DVD's are nice, but I have been spoiled by 1080p damn it! lol Wink

Tracker be damned! I mastered this bad boy, so it goes way beyond the tracker, Bubba. Glare lol

Seriously though, I am thick skinned and can take criticism. If there is anything you do not like about this DVD -- from the introduction bit, to the menus, the video itself or the outtros -- please let me know. Smiley

Oh no! banned from another site goa Embarrassed

Don't worry about your English mate ( it's very good btw ) English is my only language, but I always have major problems when it comes to choosing the correct words and phrases when writing things on the internet which often lead to me being miss understood.

I much prefer actual face to face speaking rather than writing things when asking or explaining something Smiley

I should have pointed out that to me, the "B" word is a nasty four lettered word to me. Sad I am happy to report that I only had to use this authority once in the 8 months the site has been online.

You can not imagine the number of times I have thought the very same thing as my latest and greatest "how to" posting scrolls off the screen! lol

I'm quite easily pleased believe it or not! lol especially when it comes to menus outtros lack of cover art or whatever, my only real criterea is that a DVD has good sound with decent volume and clarity and a good steady clear picture when I am trying to watch the main man David Bowie doing his stuff. I often wish there was a lot more detailed info with regards to those particular criterias in the initial description of a torrent so that quality junkies like me can better make informed decisions as to whether to download or not.

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful by saying these things, because I seriously think that if better explanations/ info regarding picture and sound quality in the initial torrent description were given, it would be a great contribution with regards to making MWP even better than it already is! Wink

This has been the topic of numerous conversations and I believe we have never really come up with a satisfactory answer. It gets convoluted as we are not strictly talking quality -- we are talking quality taking time and historical significance into consideration. Would you pass up the Floorshow Outtakes because they are not HD quality? Certainly not. Would you suffer through an nth generation Diamond Dogs show that had numerous defects. Probably so.

I ultimately think that it is up to those who download to come back and offer some quick words on quality to help inform their fellow members. Relying solely on the uploader is bad, as we have discussed in this thread, as it is relying on a single person's taste and experience -- both of which may differ drastically from your own or be influenced by issues out of a person's control (for example, having to view PAL material on NTSC only equipment). Only by having several people come back and give a quick comment on the quality of an offering can a member make an informed decision.

The only caveat to this is if the material being offered is flawed or in really bad quality. Then a warning should be provided by the uploader stating it as such.

This idea would be helpful and would at least give a fair warning to the membership before they started a download  Smiley

And I think our uploaders have done a good job of providing this information in most cases. At least I know the Hanover DVD had a nice warning of the poor sound quality. Wink

Yes admittedly things have improved of late, although not always! I was meaning a warning in red at the top of the torrent, similar to the warning that was given in the aborted 1980 floor show outtakes disc 1 torrent.

Anyways I have now watched the first disc of this meltdown DVD set, and whilst it is indeed a great DVD!  Grin I have encountered a similar problem that I had when I downloaded the 50th birthday DVD off dime ages ago. It seems  to be recorded in some kind of different format from most other DVD's that I have downloaded? and as a result it can't be played on my normal DVD player, but can be played on a portable DVD player that I have access to, and which seems to play everything. As the creator of this DVD bewley could you shed some light on the format this DVD was created with ? because I'm curious.  Smiley
